DNeX Technology Sdn Bhd has been recognized by APAC CIOOutlook Magazine as the recipient of “Hottest Cyber Security Companies,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the APAC CIOOutlook research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Rodney Lee.

DNeX Technology Sdn Bhd
Simplifying the Complexities of Security Management

DNeX Technology Sdn Bhd

Rodney Lee,CEO, DNeX Technology Sdn BhdRodney Lee, CEO
DNeX Technology is a Managed Security Services provider geared to take the lead in providing IT Security Transformation services. Offering fluid IT Security solutions, such as advisory services, the company helps local and international organizations develop strategies and instil cyber resiliency to address the ever-changing IT security threat landscape. The company’s track record features financial institutions, governments, and large IT infrastructure projects.

The company is led by its CEO, Rodney Lee, who has been in the cyber security space for over 18 years. He is a firm believer that cyber security is supposed to be an enabler and not a disruptor, especially when cyber security teams “force” the people to keep changing their passwords every 90 days. Cyber security teams should provide a little more assistance to those who are not well versed with the trade, instead of “closing the case” by asking all to keep changing their passwords. If cyber security becomes a disruption, people will not be encouraged to pursue cyber security protection or awareness; they would then consider it troublesome. As CEO of DNeX Technology, Lee guides his team to turn the complex security practices into simplified processes.

DNeX Technology takes pride in its proven processes and holistic methodologies that manage the complexities of security management with a cohesive, unified brand— FORTRESS.
It is a seamlessly integrated suite of managed security services and enterprise security solutions.

The company believes that the best way to undertake cyber security is not by trying to be a solution provider but rather a cyber security partner to the customer and run the security together with them. Based on this perspective, DNeX Technology came up with the concept of delivering hybrid security services. These services play a major role in the company’s association with major banks in Malaysia, which have a requirement of building a Security Operations Center (SOC) to be able to monitor security incidents. Banks sometimes do not have enough budget or resources to run the SOC 24/7; DNeX Technology can offer hybrid security services including building the SOC within the customers’ environment and providing resources to do the required monitoring and reporting on a monthly subscription basis. Understanding customers’ requirements and making recommendations based on their budget and requirement is what differentiates DNeX Technology from competitors.

DNeX Technology is not a product-based company and is constantly coming up with new ideas and solutions for customers. Taking one of the market buzz statement – “secure by design” – the company designed a new programme for secure application development. This programme helps end users include application security in their initial application design, and manages vulnerabilities found through code scanning on customers’ behalf. DNeX Technology calls it Application Security Assurance Program (ASAP) that includes application scanning, vulnerabilities monitoring, application incubation, and 24/7 monitoring through the SOC.

In 2017, DNeX signed an exclusive licensing programme with EC-Council Global Services in Malaysia, which came into effect in January 2018. Under the agreement, DNeX provides cyber security consultancy and advisory services based on the delivery model and methodologies of EC-Council Global Services. With this new partnership, DNeX Technology now has access to more than 200,000 security professionals worldwide and has presence in 15 countries.

Rodney further adds that instead of just competing with one another, organizations need to stand together and see who the real enemy is. Working in partnership with other cyber security providers will allow organizations to spot the unseen attacks. “We work in an environment likened to where we are trying to protect a balloon and the hackers are coming at us with needles; they only need to get lucky once whereas we need to be lucky all the time,” says Lee.
